Artist in Focus Chaerin Im en gastmuzikant NIA presenteren een volledig geïmproviseerde set. Het project verplaatst hedendaagse muziek buiten de traditionele concertzalen en verkent de ‘nomadische staat’ van het kunstenaarschap, waarbij de fysieke overgang van stad naar zee dient als conceptuele en sonische achtergrond. Tijdens de performance ervaar je hoe de verschillende muzikale talen van beide in Nederland gevestigde artiesten samenkomen. Chaerin Im werkt met haar kenmerkende elektronische jazzstructuren, terwijl Nia dit aanvult met klassieke cellotechniek, live improvisatie en soulvolle zang. Over iCOON
Voor deze performance zijn Chaerin Im en Nia te gast bij iCOON, een kleinschalig museum voor minimalistische kunst en design, verscholen in de duinen van Hoek van Holland. In en rond een voormalige bunker ontdek je hier kunst midden in het landschap, met als blikvanger de kleurrijke Duinkamer van Krijn de Koning.

Artist in Focus Chaerin Im and guest collaborator NIA will present a fully improvised set. The project moves contemporary music out of traditional concert halls to explore the “nomadic state” of artistry, using the physical transition from city to sea as a conceptual and sonic backdrop. During the performance, you experience how the distinct musical frameworks of both Netherlands-based artists come together. Chaerin Im incorporates her signature electronic jazz structures, while Nia grounds the texture with classical cello technique, live improvisation, and soulful vocals. About iCOON
For this performance, Chaerin Im and Nia perform at iCOON, a small-scale museum for minimalist art and design, tucked away in the dunes of Hoek van Holland. In and around a former bunker, you’ll encounter art embedded in the landscape, with the colourful Duinkamer by Krijn de Koning as a striking focal point.

Deze zomer staat Chaerin Im centraal als Artist in Focus, met de première van Phase Shift – A Sonic Collision of Seoul and Rotterdam, een nieuw werk in opdracht van North Sea Round Town(première op donderdag 2 juli). Als Artist in Focus maakt zij een gedurfde artistieke beweging: van haar jazzpiano-roots en de Koreaanse klassieke pianoscene naar een elektronisch, synth-heavy geluid dat zich niet laat vangen in één genre. Van Seoul tot de Rotterdamse underground beweegt ze zich met nieuw werk, in verschillende samenstellingen, door de stad en creëert ze haar eigen pad. Niet voor niets werd ze door NRC uitgeroepen tot Young Artist of the Year 2024. Binnenkort vind je hier alle concerten, haar interview staat inmiddels online.
This summer, Chaerin Im takes center stage as Artist in Focus with the premiere of Phase Shift – A Sonic Collision of Seoul and Rotterdam, a newly commissioned work by North Sea Round Town (premiere on Thursday 2 July). As Artist in Focus, she makes a bold artistic move: from her jazz piano roots and the Korean classical piano scene towards a synth-heavy, electronic sound that resists being confined to a single genre. From Seoul to the Rotterdam underground, she moves through the city with new work, in different formations, creating her own path along the way. Not without reason, she was named Young Artist of the Year 2024 by NRC. Soon you’ll find here all concerts, her interview is already online.
