In de intieme, high-fidelity omgeving van Sonoor brengt dit project Artist in Focus Chaerin Im samen met Sam Nera in een improviserend duo. Deze sessies verkennen de “sociale openheid” van de stad, waar muziek niet simpelweg stopt, maar een gesprek op gang brengt tussen performers en een publiek dat zich vrij door de ruimte beweegt. Sonoor is een listening bar in Rotterdam, een vaste plek voor muzieksessies en een ruimte die gemeenschap stimuleert door een gedeelde waardering voor kwalitatief geluid. Voor het eerst komen Chaerin en Sam samen in een geïmproviseerde set van ambient en experimentele muziek, waarin klanktexturen, verschuivende lagen en repetitieve patronen zich ontvouwen via synthesizers, loopstations en stem. Jazzhaven
North Sea Round Town brengt met Jazzhaven een ode aan de Rotterdamse geschiedenis en muzikale vernieuwing, in en rond de bijzondere plekken van Historisch Delfshaven. Tussen 16:00 en 22:00 vult de wijk zich met livemuziek, van terrassen tot kades langs het water. Je hoort een mix van stijlen: van Braziliaanse grooves tot dromerige piano en zwoele vocals. Met intieme optredens op unieke locaties ontstaat een betoverend programma vol ontdekking en ontmoeting. Voor wie de dag eerder wil beginnen, zijn er ochtendconcerten om 09:45 en 10:30, terwijl Delfshaven langzaam ontwaakt.

Set in the intimate, high-fidelity environment of Sonoor, this project features Artist in Focus Chaerin Im in an improvisational duo with Sam Nera. These sessions explore the “social openness” of the city, where music doesn’t just stop, it starts a conversation between performers and a moving audience. With Jazzhaven, North Sea Round Town presents a tribute to Rotterdam’s history and musical innovation, set in and around the unique locations of Historic Delfshaven. Between 16:00 and 22:00, the neighbourhood fills with live music, from terraces to the quays along the water. You’ll hear a mix of styles, from Brazilian grooves to dreamy piano and sultry vocals. With intimate performances at distinctive locations, a captivating programme unfolds, full of discovery and encounter. For those who want to start the day earlier, there are morning concerts at 09:45 and 10:30, as Delfshaven slowly awakens.
Deze zomer staat Chaerin Im centraal als Artist in Focus, met de première van Phase Shift – A Sonic Collision of Seoul and Rotterdam, een nieuw werk in opdracht van North Sea Round Town(première op donderdag 2 juli). Als Artist in Focus maakt zij een gedurfde artistieke beweging: van haar jazzpiano-roots en de Koreaanse klassieke pianoscene naar een elektronisch, synth-heavy geluid dat zich niet laat vangen in één genre. Van Seoul tot de Rotterdamse underground beweegt ze zich met nieuw werk, in verschillende samenstellingen, door de stad en creëert ze haar eigen pad. Niet voor niets werd ze door NRC uitgeroepen tot Young Artist of the Year 2024. Binnenkort vind je hier alle concerten, haar interview staat inmiddels online.
This summer, Chaerin Im takes center stage as Artist in Focus with the premiere of Phase Shift – A Sonic Collision of Seoul and Rotterdam, a newly commissioned work by North Sea Round Town (premiere on Thursday 2 July). As Artist in Focus, she makes a bold artistic move: from her jazz piano roots and the Korean classical piano scene towards a synth-heavy, electronic sound that resists being confined to a single genre. From Seoul to the Rotterdam underground, she moves through the city with new work, in different formations, creating her own path along the way.
