LantarenVenster x NSRT: Joe Emanuel – Een stem tussen erfgoed en identiteit

Joe Emanuel (Jorginho Paunussa) is een zanger met Molukse roots en een warme, soulvolle stem. Geïnspireerd door artiesten als Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder en Whitney Houston ontwikkelde hij al vroeg een passie voor zang en harmonie. Tijdens een verblijf in New York in 2012 begon hij met het schrijven van eigen muziek. Hij bracht meerdere nummers uit en treedt op met zijn band. In zijn persoonlijke teksten hoor je thema’s als dromen, verlies, hoop en identiteit, met aandacht voor zijn geaardheid, geloof en Molukse achtergrond. Joe zong ruim tien jaar in een black gospelgroep en werkte als achtergrondzanger met onder anderen Giovanca, Typhoon en Edsilia Rombley. Het verhaal van zijn grootouders, die in 1951 met andere Molukse KNIL-families in Rotterdam aankwamen, vormt de basis voor dit muziektheaterconcert. Je beleeft hierin hoe Joe bijdraagt aan de herdenking van 75 jaar Molukse aanwezigheid in Nederland.

Joe Emanuel (Jorginho Paunussa) is a singer with Moluccan roots and a warm, soulful voice. Inspired by artists such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston, he developed a passion for singing and harmony from an early age. During a stay in New York in 2012, he began writing his own music. He has released several tracks and performs with his band. In his personal lyrics, you hear themes of dreams, loss, hope and identity, with attention to his sexuality, faith and Moluccan background. Joe sang for over ten years in a black gospel group and has worked as a backing vocalist with artists including Giovanca, Typhoon and Edsilia Rombley. The story of his grandparents, who arrived in Rotterdam in 1951 with other Moluccan KNIL families, forms the basis for this music theatre concert.
