North Sea Round Town (NSRT) bundelt opnieuw de krachten met Space is the Place (SITP) en WORM voor een avond met grensverleggende performances. Bekend om hun compromisloze programmering en hun liefde voor experimentele en geïmproviseerde muziek, bieden SITP en WORM het ideale podium voor een avond vol rauwe energie en muzikale ontdekkingen. De eclectische line-up bestaat uit mundu lawaai, het trio van Milana Zarić, Aurélie Nyirabikali Lierman en Lucija Gregov, en North Sea Round Town’s Artist in Focus 2026 Chaerin Im, met haar live electronics-groep Neon River. Verwacht een avond waarin jazz, elektronica en improvisatie op onvoorspelbare wijze samensmelten.

Neon River is een in Amsterdam gevestigd trio dat improvisatie op hoog niveau succesvol vertaalt naar performance-gedreven elektronische muziek. Met Chaerin Im op synthesizers, Matteo Mazzù op bas en Pedro Nobre op drums bouwt de groep een rauwe, clubklare energie op via realtime samenspel en een verfijnde groove. Hun sound vormt een bewuste breuk met het statische karakter van geprogrammeerde beats en kiest in plaats daarvan voor een fysieke, direct voelbare vorm van experiment die wordt omschreven als electronic indie dance.
Vertrekkend vanuit een gedeeld palet van invloeden zoals Floating Points, Flying Lotus en Aphex Twin, creëert het trio een klanklandschap waarin zorgvuldig gevormde synthlijnen drijven boven een geaarde, pedaalrijke bas en expressief live-drums. Deze sonische identiteit werd voor het eerst vastgelegd in een reeks gefilmde sessies in het NDSM Treehouse en Hidden Gem Studio in Amsterdam, waarin de band laat zien hoe zij de spontaniteit van een liveband weet te behouden binnen een digitaal kader.
Na een reeks spraakmakende optredens tijdens het Amsterdam Dance Event en in het Bimhuis, staat de groep op het punt hun debuut-EP Olsen uit te brengen op 15 mei 2026. De release fungeert als een duidelijke artistieke uitspraak van hun hybride sound, waarin de brug wordt geslagen tussen complexe luistermuziek en de fysieke dynamiek van de dansvloer.
Elk bandlid brengt een sterke eigen staat van dienst mee. Chaerin Im, genomineerd voor de Edison Jazz Award 2025 en uitgeroepen tot NRC Young Artist of the Year 2024, vormt het harmonische fundament en het synth-ontwerp van de band. Matteo Mazzù is een vaste waarde op het Europese tourcircuit met bands als Oracle Sisters en de voor een Edison genomineerde groep WAAN, terwijl Pedro Nobre, drummer van het prijswinnende NAUSYQA, zorgt voor de dynamische controle en de eigentijdse clubfeel die de ritmische kern van het trio definiëren. “Deze band is op dit moment waarschijnlijk mijn favoriete project. We spelen al een paar jaar samen en hebben nu onze eerste EP uit. Omdat ik zo veel van deze band houd, heb ik er enorm veel tijd in gestoken, en dat proces heeft me geholpen om mijn intuïtie in muziek ook breder te vertrouwen. Neon River is de plek waar ik voor het eerst echt heb gekozen om live uitsluitend met synths te spelen, en waar ik begon te begrijpen wat het betekent om muziek te maken die zowel emotioneel als fysiek is. In zekere zin komt alles wat ik binnen het North Sea Round Town-traject onderzoek voort uit wat Neon River heeft geopend. Gregov, Lierman & Zarić
WORM presenteert een nieuw trio van improvisatoren: Lucija Gregov, Aurélie Nyirabikali Lierman en Milana Zarić. Het trio trad voor het eerst samen op in maart 2026 in het Rotterdamse Batavierhuis. Hun muziek roept een reeks eeuwenoude rituelen op, vertaald naar het heden en opnieuw geïnterpreteerd als een dialoog van gezangen, gelaagde, akkoordachtige structuren en boventoonspel tussen snaren, klokken en objecten. De musici bewegen zich vrij binnen hun gezamenlijke verbeelding en creëren onverwachte verbindingen tussen Aurélies stem en shruti box, Lucija’s krachtige cello en Milana’s harp en percussie.

mundu lawaai zoekt het geluid van een mondiale generatie in elektrische songbeats die gelaagde drums, live dub en rap samenbrengen. Als uitgesproken stedelijke clubband weerspiegelt hun urgente geluid een behoefte aan collectieve improvisatie in het licht van postkolonialiteit en massamediaconsumptie — en een werkelijkheid waarin zelfs baile funk en Balinese gamelan niet ontsnappen aan een virtuele dialoog. Na hun debuut op Minimal Music Festival 2026 beloven ze terug te keren in hun meest intense vorm tot nu toe, opnieuw puttend uit de kruispunten van dance uit de jaren 2020 en oude ‘folk’-tradities. mundu lawaai wordt ondersteund door Space is The Place Productions.

Known for their uncompromising programming and love for experimental and improvised music, SITP and WORM provide the ideal stage for a night of raw energy and musical discoveries. Neon River is an Amsterdam-based trio that successfully translates high-level improvisation into performance-led electronic music. Composed of Chaerin Im on synthesizers, Matteo Mazzù on bass, and Pedro Nobre on drums, the group builds a raw, club-ready energy through real-time interplay and sophisticated groove. Their sound is an intentional departure from the static nature of programmed beats, instead leaning into a visceral, heart-touching experimentation that has been described as electronic indie dance.
Drawing from a shared palette of influences like Floating Points, Flying Lotus, and Aphex Twin, the trio creates a landscape where sculpted synth lines float over grounded, pedal-heavy bass and expressive live drumming. This sonic identity was first documented in a series of filmed sessions at Amsterdam’s NDSM Treehouse and Hidden Gem Studio, capturing the band’s ability to maintain the spontaneity of a live band within a digital framework.
Following a series of high-profile appearances at the Amsterdam Dance Event and Bimhuis, the group is set to release their debut EP, Olsen, on May 15, 2026. “This band is probably my favourite thing to do right now. We’ve been playing for a couple of years and now have a first EP out. Because I love this band so much, I’ve spent a huge amount of time building it, and that process made me trust my instincts more broadly in music. Neon River is where I first committed to playing only synth live, where I started really understanding what it means to make music that’s both emotional and physical. In a way, everything I’m exploring in the North Sea Round Town trajectory grew out of what Neon River opened up. Gregov, Lierman & Zarić
WORM presents a new trio of improvisers; Lucija Gregov, Aurélie Nyirabikali Lierman and Milana Zarić. The trio performed together for the first time in March 2026 in Rotterdam’s Batavierhuis. Their music evokes a string of ancient rituals brought through to contemporary ears & re- interpreted as a dialogue of chants, multidimensional chord-like structures and overtone interplay between strings, bells and objects. The musicians freely move within their collaborative imagination, creating unexpected connections between Aurelie’s voice and shruti box, Lucija’s powerful cello and Milana’s harp and percussion.

mundu lawaai seeks the sound of a global generation in electric song-beats that blend layered drums, live dub, and rapping. A decisively urban club band, their urgent noise reflects a need for collective improvisation facing post-coloniality and mass media consumption, and a reality where not even baile funk and Balinese gamelan can escape virtual dialogue. Following their debut at Minimal Music Festival 2026, they promise to re-emerge at their heaviest yet, sampling anew from the crossroads of 2020s dance music and ancient “folk” forms. mundu lawaai is supported by Space is The Place Productions.

Deze zomer staat Chaerin Im centraal als Artist in Focus, met de première van Phase Shift – A Sonic Collision of Seoul and Rotterdam, een nieuw werk in opdracht van North Sea Round Town(première op donderdag 2 juli). Als Artist in Focus maakt zij een gedurfde artistieke beweging: van haar jazzpiano-roots en de Koreaanse klassieke pianoscene naar een elektronisch, synth-heavy geluid dat zich niet laat vangen in één genre. Van Seoul tot de Rotterdamse underground beweegt ze zich met nieuw werk, in verschillende samenstellingen, door de stad en creëert ze haar eigen pad. Niet voor niets werd ze door NRC uitgeroepen tot Young Artist of the Year 2024. Binnenkort vind je hier alle concerten, haar interview staat inmiddels online.
This summer, Chaerin Im takes center stage as Artist in Focus with the premiere of Phase Shift – A Sonic Collision of Seoul and Rotterdam, a newly commissioned work by North Sea Round Town (premiere on Thursday 2 July). As Artist in Focus, she makes a bold artistic move: from her jazz piano roots and the Korean classical piano scene towards a synth-heavy, electronic sound that resists being confined to a single genre. From Seoul to the Rotterdam underground, she moves through the city with new work, in different formations, creating her own path along the way.
