New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra meets the next generation – A Celebration of 30 Years Erasmus Jazz Prize

Rebel rebel! De toekomst van de Rotterdamse jazzscene klinkt hier en nu. In dit unieke concert bundelt het New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra de krachten met de nieuwe generatie makers van Codarts. Drie finalisten van de Erasmus Jazzprijs presenteren hun werk in een volledig nieuw jasje: speciaal gearrangeerd en uitgevoerd door het orkest. Zeven gloednieuwe composities komen samen in één avond vol energie, experiment en eigenzinnige stemmen, van intieme solo’s tot groot ensemblegeluid.

30 jaar Erasmus Jazzprijs
Ter gelegenheid van het 30-jarig jubileum van de Erasmus Jazzprijs slaan NRJO en Codarts de handen ineen, op initiatief van artistiek leider van het NRJO Louk Boudesteijn en Codarts-docent jazzcompositie S’Yo Fang. Veel (oud-)studenten hebben hun weg naar het orkest gevonden en die band blijft essentieel.

Samen met Erasmus Jazzprijs-finalisten Paco Fernandez, Gabriel Cassaro en Vishal Singh Rebari viert het NRJO nieuw talent. Originele muziek van deze drie gasten wordt gearrangeerd voor het orkest door geselecteerde Codarts-studenten en het NRJO. Daarnaast maken twee geselecteerde compositiestudenten Linde Tillmanns en Harm Kolen hun debuut met nieuw werk dat speciaal voor deze gelegenheid is geschreven. Kom en steun een nieuwe generatie: een avond vol composities, improvisatie en frisse, nieuwe energie.

Dit project is een initiatief van New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra en Codarts, en komt tot stand in samenwerking met LantarenVenster en North Sea Round Town.

Rebel, rebel! The future of Rotterdam’s jazz scene is sounding right here, right now. In this unique concert, the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra joins forces with a new generation of makers from Codarts. Three finalists of the Erasmus Jazz Prize present their work in a completely new light — specially arranged and performed by the orchestra. Seven brand-new compositions come together in one evening full of energy, experimentation and distinctive voices — from intimate solos to the powerful sound of a full ensemble.

30 Years of the Erasmus Jazz Prize
To mark the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus Jazz Prize, the NRJO and Codarts join forces, initiated by NRJO artistic director Louk Boudesteijn and Codarts jazz composition teacher S’Yo Fang. Many (former) students have found their way into the orchestra, and that connection remains vital. Together with Erasmus Jazz Prize finalists Paco Fernandez, Gabriel Cassaro and Vishal Singh Rebari, the NRJO celebrates emerging talent. Original works by these three artists are specially arranged for the orchestra by selected Codarts students and the NRJO. In addition, two composition students, Linde Tillmanns and Harm Kolen, will make their debut with new pieces written especially for this occasion. Come and support a new generation — an evening of composition, improvisation and fresh creative energy.
