Tijdens The Transformation Suite II – The Griot Edition komen jazz, spoken word, hiphop, live visuals en storytelling samen in een bijzondere avond rond de eeuwenoude West-Afrikaanse griottraditie. Ter gelegenheid van het 1-jarig bestaan van Galerie NOIR NOIR presenteert Transformation Suite II: The Griot Edition: een unieke avond waarin jazz, hiphop, spoken word, live visuals en storytelling samensmelten tot een meeslepende totaalervaring.
Centraal staat de griot: de West-Afrikaanse verhalenverteller en bewaker van geschiedenis, taal en cultureel erfgoed. Al eeuwenlang geven griots kennis, muziek en verhalen mondeling door van generatie op generatie. Deze traditie vormt de culturele basis van hedendaagse expressievormen als hiphop, rap, spoken word en jazz, waarin verhalen nog altijd worden gedeeld, herinneringen levend worden gehouden en gemeenschappen een stem krijgen.
In een intieme setting, omringd door Afrikaanse en Afro-Caribische kunstwerken, onderzoeken internationale musici en kunstenaars uit de Afrikaanse diaspora hoe de griot zich heeft ontwikkeld van traditionele verhalenverteller tot de hedendaagse urban storyteller.
DJ Eni-Less, TheNameisDamaris, KARPACHII (Michael Wanga), Bruno Ferro Xavier Da Silva, Malumba Anderson en special guest Kay Slice brengen muziek, woord, improvisatie en beeld samen in een avond waarin verleden en heden elkaar ontmoeten. Verwacht geen traditioneel concert, maar een levende ontmoeting tussen verschillende kunstvormen en generaties, waarin identiteit, herinnering en culturele continuïteit centraal staan.

To celebrate the first anniversary of Galerie NOIR NOIR, Transformation Suite II: The Griot Edition presents a unique multidisciplinary experience in which jazz, hip-hop, spoken word, live visuals, and storytelling merge into an immersive artistic journey.
At the heart of the evening is the griot: the West African storyteller, historian, and guardian of cultural memory. For centuries, griots have preserved and transmitted knowledge, music, language, and history through oral tradition, passing stories from one generation to the next. This tradition forms the cultural foundation of contemporary art forms such as hip-hop, rap, spoken word, and jazz, where stories continue to be shared, memories kept alive, and communities given a voice.
Set within an intimate environment surrounded by African and Afro-Caribbean artworks, international musicians and artists from across the African diaspora explore the evolution of the griot—from traditional storyteller to today’s urban narrator.
